Tips to Make those Resolutions Stick

Did you know that on average, 80% of New Year's resolutions fail by the second week of February?

We are halfway through January and I am sure those big expectations of the New Year are beginning to fade.

We have all heard the studies. Researcher's say it can take anywhere from 18 to 254 days for a person to form a new habit and an average of 66 days for a new behavior to become automatic.

We know that the follow through is hard when that nagging little thing called life gets in the way but we are here for you.

Here are three tips to help those resolutions stick:

1.Be specific: just exercising more or losing weight won't cut it. Get real clear with your intention. Run a 5k or loose 10 pounds. If you see your goal clearly it will be easier to see the steps you need to take to get there.

2.Frame your goal with positive language: The way that we speak to ourselves sets the stage for our actions. When we tell ourselves to stop smoking or stop over eating, we put a ton of pressure on ourselves and it makes us think more about the things we wish to avoid. Instead of saying 'Don't eat junk food', replace the negative with a positive statement, such as 'I will replace my daily snacks with fruits and vegetables'".

3.Make your goals all about you: So often we frame our goals around our career, our family or friends. But this is all about you. Ask yourself what it is you truly want. By asking this question you will be honoring the most authentic side of yourself. the one that holds all of the control. If you really want something you will make it to happen.

Take life into your own hands. Use this affirmation when working to create your goals: “I am clear, I am positive, I am true to myself”.
